FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Ann Arbor, Michigan - July 1, 2011 - Appervasive announces the first release of MemClip, their web clipping iPad app, and indicates that many new features are on the way soon. Right now, the app provides the ability to jump from the default iPad browser, Safari, into MemClip when you find a page you want to clip. From there, you can clip the page and either continue to browse, or jump back to Safari. When a page or a section of a page is clipped, it can be sent to the user's Evernote account. In addition, the app utilizes email to integrate with Evernote, allowing you to add notes prior to sending it to Evernote, and to send the note to other email addresses when you want to share. Future plans include sharing functionality for social media and continual improvements to how the clipping technology clips, with the goal of making it look as much like the page you were on as possible.
"The purpose of this app is very simple, yet very powerful when you start to use it - allow the user to web clip on the iPad," says Appervasive CEO and MemClip partner, Keith Bourne. "Web clipping has been a popular feature for Evernote users in the desktop versions of the software for years now, and we wanted to bring that functionality to iPad. Given that the iPad was meant to provide a superior web browsing experience, MemClip was developed to focus on the web clipping feature and make it as easy as possible. Evernote is such a powerful service and it has many users that are already familiar with web clipping on the desktop - so we felt it was a no-brainer to use them as the central service for where you store your web clips from MemClip."
While MemClip has the capabilities of a simple web browser, it has been designed for someone that wishes to use Safari as their main browser. Often, people will end up in Safari, possibly from a link in an email or app. MemClip makes it as easy as possible to get from Safari into MemClip, clip, then jump back to Safari. The user simply has to set up what is called a bookmarklet in Safari (see the MemClip bookmarklet instructions), and they will be able to jump from Safari to MemClip at anytime with the webpage you were on in Safari. In MemClip, there is an Internet icon in the top right region of the app that will send you back to Safari with the webpage you were on in MemClip.
"We have a lot planned for the MemClip app, as well as other related apps focused on specific markets, such as education and business, " says MemClip development partner and iOS developer, Priya Rajagopal. "We weren't sure if we should launch it right now, before adding some of the other functionality planned, but we had quite a few requests for the core web clipping functionality and wanted to at least get that out there for people to started taking advantage of. We've already had a very positive response and can't wait to provide even more features in the future. Of course, if you download it now, you will still get all of the future upgrades for free. And, we are listening very intently to our customer feedback. So if you have any ideas for what you would like to see in the app, please let us know through the MemClip contact form. We are always listening!"
